About this site
The Ridge Sentinel is a news website aimed at providing fair and unbiased local news coverage for Tumbler Ridge B.C. and the surrounding region.
The site’s philosophy, in a nutshell, is that local news comes first, and that community is built by keeping local people engaged and informed. This website is not about simply creating enough news content to hold the ads apart; it’s based on the principle that good journalism is also good business.
The Ridge Sentinel conforms to CP Style, the national standard for accurate, readable and ethical reporting. It aims to provide a platform for readers to voice their opinions, and to be connected with relevant news from around the region and the province.
This site was launched (as The Ridge Blog) on October 14, 2011 by Greg Amos, former editor of the Tumbler Ridge News, to ensure news coverage in the community during the fall election season, as the local newspaper had no reporter at the time. In April 2012, the name was changed to The Ridge Sentinel.
